Yet another Vista Delay 
This week, Microsoft announced yet another delay in the release of Windows Vista, now planned for early 2007.
Microsoft say that they need more time to fine tune their OS regarding performances and security. But analysts won’t have it. These reasons can’t justify such a delay, especially in the OS field [and from Microsoft] where companies are used to release software riddled with bugs, then a flurry of patches in the following weeks/months. So it would seem that the reasons are deeper and probably related to the fact that the OS is [supposed to be] built on fresh roots.
This is probably good news for Apple, as they will have plenty of time to make the transition to Intel machines and even release a new major version of OSX before MS release Vista.
On the other hand, this is bad news for the PC manufacturers: they are eagerly waiting for Vista, planning that it will push customers to upgrade to new machines in order to take full advantage of the bells and whistles promised by the new OS. Some manufacturers have even started downgrading their sales previsions…
[update: according to an “internal Microsoft source”, they need to rewrite 60% of the Vista code!!! Well, I guess the coders at Microsoft are gonna get little sleep in the upcoming months].
