Deoarece sunt utilizator de linux-acasa si la serviciu, o sa incep un tutorial cu privire la instalarea distribuitiei Debian Sid (aka unstable) pe Powerbookul meu TI 667.
Pentru inceput o sa precizez urmatoarele:
caracteristici hardware:
memorie 1x512.
hdd 80GB inlocuind pe cel original de 30 GB.
mouse bleah Microsoft Optical for Notebook (mda stiu…dar asta e ramas la de vechiul meu Travelmate..)
in rest e standard
-ce nu functioneaza pana acum(sau inca nu am testat)-infrared ,wirelessul si modemul intern
puncte forte:ruleaza flash chiar si versiunea 9.(inclusiv de pe youtube)
              OpenJDK instalat-deci java nu are nici o problema
              ruleaza cam toate formatele video si audio cunoscute
              ultima versiune de OOOffice 2.4.1 si ceva..
puncte slabe:screensaverul se pare ca ocupa ceva resurse deoarce ca sa revii la ecranul cu parola tre sa ai rabdare vreo 5-6 secunde

Astea fiind spuse o sa incepem:
Operatiunea de instalare se va desfasura din 2 etape,cu mai multi pasi fiecare,ca sa zic asa, deoarece nu exista imagini iso de sid pentru arhitectura ppc.
Etapa 1.
1.Se downloadeaza urmatoarea imagine iso si se arde pe un cd (la viteza mica mica—nu recomand mai mult de 4x) http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r4a/powerpc/iso-cd/debian-40r4a-powerpc-CD-1.iso  sau daca nu avem legatura la net se ia http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r4a/powerpc/iso-dvd/debian-40r4a-powerpc-DVD-1.iso
2.trebuie avuta in vedere urmatoarea situatie:
daca e instalat OSX trebuie sa micsoram partitia asa fel incat sa obtinem 10 G spatiu liber si inca 512MB pentru swap.
10GB e o cifra orientativa, instalarea mea ocupa cam 4 giga cu totul.
Partitonarea mea arata cam asa:
hda1-unknown(e de fapr apple part map)
hda2-bootpart-1MB
hda3- ext 3   /  10GB
hda4- hfs+ 30GB OSX
hda5- swap 512 MB
hda6-  hfs+ /mnt/Date 39GB

PS:As fi pus direct la wiki insa nu am accesul necesar..

1) Dacă ai access internet poți lua imaginea de net-install - e mult mai mica.
2) Screen-saverele “blank” sau “none” sunt cele mai bune
3) Fă-l complet & frumos și îl pui la Wiki după aia

Pot să confirm, poate puțin tardiv—Debian funcționează excelent; îl folosesc şi eu pe iBook G3-ul meu şi merge brici.

Totuşi, e un pic ciudat ce spui de screensaver—eu nu am problema asta pe un sistem mai slab (G3 600, 256 MB RAM). Ce screensaver foloseşti? Ce desktop? Cu FVWM (şi XFCE, pe testate, dar eu folosesc FVWM) şi screensaver-ul cu pătrate merge practic instantaneu.

Dacă-l postezi pe wiki, ți-aş sugera să postezi şi xorg.conf-ul folosit de tine. Nu ştiu dacă problema există şi pe Ti-uri, dar la G3-ul meu (seria translucent plastic, are un Ati Radeon Mobility something parcă) orice formă de autodetectare o dă în bară.
